Trauma Care

Injuries catch you off guard, and the worst ones can have a long-term effect on your physical and emotional health.

Here, at Midwest Orthopaedic Center, our trauma care surgeons –– Dr. Akeson and Dr. Osuji –– specialize in the surgical treatment of traumatic orthopaedic injuries. These procedures aim to restore your quality of life, remove lasting discomfort and help lessen the toll it takes on your mental well-being.

Get back what was fractured in your injury. Let your home for orthopaedics restore the best version of you.

When a break, sprain or strain requires prompt attention, go to Midwest Ortho First. Our walk-in service, based out of our Peoria location is the ideal, orthopaedic-focused alternative to an ER visit, with specialists ready to handle your needs and an on-call surgeon available for operative care.

There are times, however, when the emergency room or general urgent care is more appropriate. Go to the ER if you have:

    • A fracture with the bone visible or an open wound over the fracture
    • A fracture where the bone is broken at a severe angle
    • Deep cuts or lacerations
    • Burns
    • The symptoms of a bacterial or viral infection

If your injury is so severe that your movements are limited or your health is in jeopardy, please call 911.

    • Back &/or neck injuries
    • Blunt impacts
    • Fractures & broken bones
    • Lacerations & deep cuts
    • Trauma-related conditions
    • Complications or deformities resulting from previous traumatic injuries

At Midwest Orthopaedic Hospital, Dr. Akeson and Dr. Osuji perform standard orthopaedic procedures as well as robotic-assisted surgeries to reconstruct what’s injured, damaged or broken.

After your surgery, your trauma care doctor may recommend physical therapy at Midwest Orthopaedic Center. Based out of our Peoria and Pekin locations, our licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists and therapy assistants lead you in various exercises, treatments and therapies designed to restore your strength and range of motion while reinvigorating your life in the process.

Meet Our Patients

From Dr. Osuji to his staff, they're so caring. I've never had quite that kind of treatment with an operation. I would recommend everyone to go there if they have the kind of problems that I had.
