Specialties

Dr. Arakua Welbeck specializes in shoulder and elbow surgery, helping patients ranging from high school students to older adults regain function, reduce pain and return to the activities that matter to them.

Her approach to orthopaedic care begins with a simple principle: put the patient first. Dr. Welbeck believes treatment decisions should be made using an evidence-based approach after a thoughtful discussion with each patient about their condition, goals and available options. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, she works with patients to determine what is best for their individual circumstances.

Dr. Welbeck also has an interest in the technology being used to advance shoulder and elbow surgery, including specialized software that can assist surgeons with planning procedures and selecting the appropriate approach for each patient.

Ultimately, her goal is to help patients become a better version of themselves. Whether treating a younger athlete, an active adult or an older patient hoping to maintain independence, Dr. Welbeck wants patients to understand their options and play an active role in determining the course of their care.

The physician-led philosophy at Midwest Orthopaedic Center was one of the qualities that attracted Dr. Welbeck to the practice. She was also drawn to the camaraderie among the physicians and staff and the opportunity to practice the kind of medicine she loves while making a meaningful difference in her patients’ lives.

Originally from Ghana, Dr. Welbeck attended Harvard University and Duke University. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling, experiencing new places and foods, and spending time with family.
